Here in Canada moms are starting to teach babies sign language ... is that happening in Italy?
We already use waving the hand as 'bye-bye'. Now by 1 year old, a child can have several signs to communicate: hungry, tired, etc. The little ones have less frustration and mom's don't need the 20 questions to get a head nod.
